Son Heung-min (31, Tottenham) played his first game with his new teammates.
The South Korean scored three second-half goals in a 5-1 pre-season friendly victory over Singaporean professional team Ryan City Sailors at the Singapore National Stadium on Saturday.
It was Son’s first official appearance under new coach Ange Postecoglou. After undergoing off-season hernia surgery, Son missed the West Ham match in Perth, Australia, on Sept. 18. Postecoglou was considerate of the newcomer’s condition. Heung-min was expected to start against Leicester City in Bangkok on the 23rd, but the match was canceled due to heavy rain.스포츠토토
In his first game under the new coach, Son felt light. There were no after-effects of his hernia surgery. He was light on his feet and dribbled down the left flank. In the 26th minute, Heung-min scored with a header, but the goal was disallowed for offside. Son played only the first half before being subbed off.
It was also significant that he was able to link up with off-season signing James Maddison for the first time. We can expect to see a lot more of Maddison’s passes being turned into goals by Son next season. Coming on as a joker, Heung-min scored his hat-trick in the second half.
‘Football London’ gave Son a five-star rating. The publication said, “SON made the wrong decision to cross the pass from Maddison back to Kane instead of shooting. He scored a goal in the first half but was ruled offside. Son struggled to capitalize on his chances.”
Harry Kane, who scored the equalizer from the penalty spot, earned six points. “He had a good shot early on. But he didn’t do much to stand out until he scored the penalty.”
Maddison got the best review. Football London gave Maddison a 7, saying, “He had a lot of mid-range shots but they were blocked by defenders or the goalkeeper. He made a good pass to Son Heung-min, but Son Heung-min passed to Kane and he missed the chance. He was the best player who played in the first half.”
After the Asian tour, Tottenham will return to London for a friendly against Shakhtar Donetsk on August 6.
