San Diego Padres pitcher Ha-Sung Kim, 28, did not receive an invitation to the 2023 Major League Baseball (MLB) All-Star Game. Local media reported that he was a possible replacement.
Major League Baseball announced the final 32-player roster for the 2023 MLB All-Star Game on Wednesday. Shohei Ohtani, Mike Trout (Los Angeles Angels), Freddie Freeman, Mookie Betts (Los Angeles Dodgers), Ronald Acuna Jr. (Atlanta Braves), and Nolan Arenado (St. Louis Cardinals) are among the stars of the festivities.
Ohtani is the only Asian player to make the All-Star team. This is Ohtani’s third consecutive All-Star Game appearance. Kim Ha-seong, who was looking to make his first big league All-Star appearance, was not selected. He was overlooked by both the manager’s nomination and the players’ vote.
This year, Kim is on track for a career-high season. In 81 games, he’s batting .257 with 10 home runs, 31 RBIs, 13 doubles, and a .757 OPS.메이저사이트
With 10 home runs and 10 doubles already under his belt, Kim is on pace for 20 home runs and 20 doubles. If he adds 10 homers and seven steals in his remaining 77 games, he will become the third Asian player to join the 20-homer, 20-steal club after Shin-Soo Choo (SSG Rangers) and Ohtani.
Despite not making the All-Star roster, Kim’s chances of making the team are not completely gone. Players are often scratched from the All-Star Game for various reasons, including injury.
The San Diego Union-Tribune, a San Diego local media outlet, mentioned Kim on Wednesday as a possible replacement for Fernando Tatis Jr, Blake Snell, and Michael Wakar as San Diego players who could make the All-Star Game.
“Snell, who ranks fourth in the National League in strikeouts (114), eighth in ERA (3.21) and fifth in WHIP (2.84), could make the All-Star roster if other pitchers are left out,” the San Diego Union-Tribune wrote. Fernando Tatis Jr. with an OPS of 0.867 is also a possibility,” he said, “as is Ha-Sung Kim, who has hit five home runs in his last 10 games.”
Meanwhile, Kim’s team, San Diego, will be represented in the All-Star Game by Juan Soto and Josh Hader. In 2021, Darvish Yu, Tatis Jr, Manny Machado, Jake Cronenwirth, and Mark Melanson were named to the All-Star Game, while Machado, Cronenwirth, and Joe Musgrove were selected last year.
